Animal Decon is an animal decontamination training, planning and disaster response resource for working and service animals, household pets, zoo, exotic, wildlife and livestock. All types of animals are affected during a disaster and need proper decontamination to remain healthy and active. That's were we come in.
Animal decontamination has become increasingly more important as households continue get more pets. The community often includes horses in what they value as a companion animal as well as other livestock. Thousands of animals per year are affected by events that require proper decontamination to improve quality of life and increase an animals chance of remaining healthy.
Animals themselves can be severely impacted by the stress of emergency situations, well beyond the primary effects of chemical, biological, or radiological hazards. Stress can lead to secondary physical disorders, such as gastrointestinal upset, or work to suppress the immune system, leading to increases risk of infectious diseases.
There are substantial knowledge gaps pertaining to the science of managing contaminated animals. We close those gaps thru training and education by bringing authority, expertise and resources to the planning process for developing your animal decontamination capability.
Animal Decon has partnered with First Line Technology on processes that will allow owners to restrain and decontaminate their own animals, with or without assistance. The potential for decontamination failure, escape, animal injury, and human injury, however, may escalate dramatically so Animal Decon has integrated proper safe animal handling during decontamination in all our courses.
Animal Decon is setting the standard of training that can be used by animal decontamination teams.
There are no immediately deployable, significant animal decontamination training resource available. While local fire/HAZMAT response personnel will have excellent understanding of hazards and decontamination operations, they may have little knowledge of safe animal handling and proper techniques to use on animals.
Catastrophic events could require the decontamination of tens of thousands of pets and other animals and with no specific resource types for animal decontamination, many animals suffer.
Animal Decon has developed the tools and training necessary for your community to have trained local decontamination teams. Inquire today on getting your teams properly trained.
If you are interested in joining our national decontamination team, drop us a line. Team members must meet certain training requirements. Contact us and receive a list of required courses.
